Singing at LAR Welwyn

At LAR Welwyn, we offer a range of different singing classes for children ages 4 to 16. We offer:

  • 1-2-1 Singing Lessons

  • Singing as part of our Performing Arts Classes

  • Singing as part of our Musical Theatre Classes

  • Singing as part of LAR Elite (auditioned)

LAR Welwyn is a registered LAMDA Exam Centre and Trinity Exam Centre. 1-2-1 Students are able to take LAMDA Solo Musical Theatre Exams and Trinity Classical Singing Exams or Rock & Pop Exams. We also offer Musical Theatre Group LAMDA on Wednesdays & Saturdays.

We have two shows a year and all group classes and 1-2-1 students are invited to perform.

We perform at local events and festivals - for example we recently performed a selection of songs for WGC 100, Festival Of Lights.

All our singing students (1-2-1 and group) have the opportunity to enter Music Festivals and Competitions and we have had great success at Watford and Chesham Arts Festivals, Milton Keynes Festival, The Voice Kids, Teenstar and West End In Competition.

Students are also able to audition for professional musical theatre work as we have our own in-house agency - LAR Talent Agency - exclusively representing LAR students. We have two children making their West End debuts in Summer 2021!

We have a LAMDA and TRINITY 100% PASS RATE

All 1-2-1 singing students are given the opportunity to take LAMDA Musical Theatre Exams. We enter children ages 7+ for their exams in Solo Musical Theatre, once a year at our Private Exam Centre.

LAMDA Exams are similar to a music exam and offer an ongoing measurement of progress in speech, drama and performance. The gradual progression through the LAMDA grades provides benchmarks for every stage of a student’s development. It helps to support a steady improvement in self-confidence, vocal and physical technique, and language awareness.

Grades 6 to 8 also count towards UCAS Points and are equivalent to GCSE / AS / A Levels.

1-2-1 singing students will also able to take a Trinity Singing Exam in either Classical Singing or Rock & Pop. These exams develop musicianship skills and vocal technique and encourage children to learn how to read music.

We offer the chance to take 3 different exams each year - Trinity Rock & Pop in Term 1, LAMDA Musical Theatre in Term 2 and Trinity Classical Singing in Term 3. This enables students to be well-rounded performers, singing a variety of musical genres and styles.
