Drama at LAR Tring
At LAR Tring we offer Drama for ages 4 to 18 in a variety of different classes throughout the week.
Classes on offer are:
Drama as part of our Performing Arts Classes
1-2-1 LAMDA Lessons
Drama as part of our LAR Elite auditioned classes
Drama as part of our Musical Theatre classes
We are a registered LAMDA Exam centre and all students are able to take LAMDA Exams in Acting or Verse & Prose. We include LAMDA in all 3 options listed above. The exams are not compulsory.
We have two Shows a year at The David Evans Court Theatre, Pendley.
Our students have the opportunity to enter Speech and Drama Festivals and have had great success at Watford and Chesham Arts Festivals.
Students are also able to audition for professional theatre work as we have our own in-house agency - LAR Talent Agency - exclusively representing LAR students. We have two students making their West End debuts in Summer 2021!
We have a LAMDA 100% PASS RATE
All students are given the opportunity to take LAMDA Exams. We enter children ages 5+ for their exams, once a year at our Private Exam Centre.
LAMDA Exams are similar to a music exam and offer an ongoing measurement of progress in speech and drama. The
gradual progression through the LAMDA grades provides benchmarks for every stage of a student’s development. It helps to support a steady improvement in self-confidence, vocal and physical technique, and language awareness.
Grades 6 to 8 also count towards UCAS Points and are equivalent to GCSE / AS / A Levels.
Success at Speech & Drama Festivals
We are very proud of our students for their continued success at Speech and Drama Festivals and Competitions.
About our Drama classes...
Julius Wills is the Vice-Principal of LAR Performing Arts and is the LAR Tring LAMDA and Drama teacher.
Julius focuses on developing the skills required for vocal projection and articulation. His classes build confidence and encourage children to be brave by thinking outside the box.
In our Performing Arts classes, students develop skills in improvisation, script work, play drama games, build confidence, work on monologues and poems, develop a secure vocal technique and explore physical theatre.
Our Actor's Toolbox classes are for those that love Drama and want to take it to the next level. Classes include acting for camera, audition technique, improvisation, devising, script work, Shakespeare, and lots more.
1-2-1 Lessons are tailored to the individual. They can include working towards LAMDA Exams, building confidence, help with public speaking, improve reading ability and lots more.
Julius begins every class with an in-depth vocal warm-up and even our youngest students will focus on improving diction and breath control. Julius is great at making his classes really fun, whilst also developing key performance skills.
We regularly invite theatre professionals to lead one-off workshops at LAR Tring. This gives our students the opportunity to work with West End stars and leading Directors.
