Vocal & Instrumental Classes adjudicated by Adam Smith

Adam is a UK born MD and Multi-instrumentalist, who most recently worked as Children’s Musical Director and Cover Conductor/Keys 1 on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘School of Rock’ in London’s West End. Prior to this, Adam was fortunate enough to tour the world several times over as Guitar/Keys with ‘The Simon and Garfunkel Story’. Adam graduated in 2014 from Royal Holloway, The University of London with a Master’s degree in Music going on to co-found Camden-based trio ‘Pocketclub’ which gained exposure on BBC radio and Sky TV, supporting the likes of Paloma Faith, Clean Bandit and The Kaiser Chiefs on the UK festival circuit. Adam has worked on 5 star and award nominated productions, performed on national television and radio to over 1 million people, worked with Grammy winning composers and performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Other pop and theatre work includes: ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ (UK tour, dep), ‘Calendar Girls’ (UK tour, dep) ‘I Am Harlequin’, ‘Tori Allen-Martin’, ‘Shao Hao’ and Britain’s Got Talent winners ‘Collabro’

Poetry and Solo Acting Classes adjudicated by Max Reynolds

Max is a theatre director specialising in musical theatre and plays. His recent credits include The Pirate Queen (London Coliseum); Spamilton (The Menier Chocolate Factory); Ruthless! (The Arts Theatre, London); Thoroughly Modern Millie (UK Tour); Little Shop of Horrors (UK Tour) and Avenue Q (UK Tour and Hong Kong).

Most recently Max was the Resident Director for the UK and International tour of Hair celebrating the musicals' 50th anniversary.

In addition to theatre directing, Max also teaches and directs at drama schools and colleges across the country. He is currently a Musical Theatre Lecturer at Bird College.

We're delighted to present our first online Music & Drama Festival! 

The festival is for ages 18 & under and includes classes in Musical Theatre, Pop Singing, Instrumental, Poetry and Solo Acting / Monologues. 

The festival is open to everyone - not just LAR Students.

Results announced at 5PM on 10th July 2020

All entries will receive written feedback from either Max or Adam along with a mark out of 100.

90 + Honours  /  80 + Distinction  /  70 + Merit   /  60 + Commended

90 + Honours - An exceptional performance both technically and artistically​

  80 + Distinction  - An excellent performance both technically and artistically

 70 + Merit  - A convincing performance both technically and artistically

 60 + Commended - A capable performance showing some technical ability and artistic appreciation

Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each class. There will also be a an Overall Winner of each category.

There is a limit of 1 entry per person, per category - otherwise we will have too many entries!

Festival Rules

  1. By entering this Festival, you are deemed to be in acceptance of these rules without exception.

  2. Time limits must be adhered to. If a performance over runs the time limit by more than 30 seconds, marks will be deducted. 

  3. There is a limit of 1 entry per person per category. 

  4. No backing vocals, harmonies etc are allowed in the Musical Theatre or Pop Song classes.

  5. All videos submitted must have been made within the last three months (April 2020 onward). Videos from previous performances or festivals will not be accepted.

  6. The festival will not be held responsible for any injury, damage or liability sustained while participating. Any performer who participates does so at their own risk when filming their footage.

  7. All videos will be viewed by Louisa (Principal of LAR Performing Arts) and either Max Reynolds or Adam Smith. Videos will be deleted from our system as soon as the festival is over.

  8. Names of children entered will be displayed underneath each class category (no photos or videos will be displayed).

  9. If a child places 1st, 2nd or 3rd, their video may be displayed on our results page. The parent / guardian can select yes or no to this when entering the festival. 

  10. No late entries will be allowed - the deadline is 1st July 2020.
